Our Southbourne Memory Clubs meet once a week for two hours on Thursdays and are for those within our community who have a diagnosis of dementia. The Clubs follow a programme of themed activities, carried out over several weeks in small groups, with each session covering a different topic, each designed to improve the mental abilities and memory of someone with dementia.
The volunteer role is to assist the facilitator who runs the group, helping to make the experience welcoming, safe and enjoyable for all our clients.
Benefits to self
Being a helper at our Memory Clubs is very rewarding. Our clients really enjoy their time with us and look forward to coming each week. Interaction with volunteers is a big part of this.
Training available
All necessary training will be given and no specific skills are required. A readiness to support our Memory Club members in a fun a friendly way would be a real advantage
