One major problem with students is that we struggle with communication - a vital aspect of our lives. To get a job, you need to communicate, to do a group task, you need to communicate, to start a business you need to communicate and to build or be in an amazing friend group, you need communication. But no worries, the Public Speaking Society (TPSS) is a platform for students to develop and enhance their communication and leadership skills. The aims and objectives of the society are designed to create an environment that fosters personal growth, allows members to express themselves confidently, and provides valuable networking opportunities.

Aims

• Develop Effective Communication Skills: To help its members become proficient communicators. The society helps individuals improve their vocabulary, grammar, delivery style, and oral presentation skills through various activities, such as impromptu speeches, prepared speeches, evaluations, and debates.
• Enhance Self-Confidence: To boost confidence levels among members. Frequent practice in front of supportive peers helps individuals overcome stage fright or fear of public speaking. As they progress in society by giving speeches on different topics with increasing complexity, participants gain self-assurance in their ability to address an audience effectively.
• Improve Leadership Abilities: Members have opportunities to take on roles such as organizing events or mentoring new members, which promotes teamwork, responsibility, time management skills, and organizational abilities.
• Promote Critical Thinking Skills: By participating in debates or discussing current affairs during meetings or workshops, the club encourages critical thinking among its members. Critical thinking enables them to analyse diverse perspectives objectively while formulating well-reasoned arguments
• Facilitate Networking Opportunities: To foster connections amongst individuals from diverse backgrounds who share common interests. This network can prove advantageous later in students' academic careers or professional lives when seeking internships, scholarships, recommendation letters, and job opportunities within specific fields

Objectives

• Monthly Meetings and Workshops: The Public Speaking Society aims to conduct regular meetings or workshops where members can practice their public speaking skills. These sessions provide a supportive environment for participants to deliver speeches, receive constructive feedback, and learn from experienced speakers.
• Structured Learning: The society will adopt a curriculum that guides members through well-defined learning objectives. This includes completing a series of prepared speeches with specific goals aimed at improving various aspects of speech delivery, such as vocal variety, body language, persuasion techniques, and effective use of visual aids.
• Evaluation and Feedback: Providing structured evaluations and feedback on the speeches delivered by society members. Constructive criticism helps individuals identify areas for improvement and encourages them to refine their presentation style further.
• Opportunities for Leadership Roles: The public speaking society encourages active member participation by offering various leadership roles. Members can serve as mentors, meeting facilitators, president’s team assistants or assume responsibilities in event management. These roles enable them to develop leadership abilities beyond public speaking skills.
• Contests and Competitions: The society aims to organize in-house contests involving different types of speeches and evaluation categories, to showcase individual progress and provide opportunities for healthy competition. Participating in these events allows students to enhance their public speaking skills while receiving recognition for their achievements.
