Ever thought about volunteering whilst at BU, but not sure where to start or how to get involved?

Volunteering can involve a range of outdoor activities on behalf of wildlife conservation charities or volunteering at fundraising events, but you may be surprised to know that lots of charities also need  office and admin-based roles, with many looking for help with media and communications.  Some roles are remote based, so you could even volunteer from the comfort of your own home!

Not all volunteering requires a high level of commitment; for example, the SUBU Beach Champions project organises regular beach cleans throughout the academic year, so you can pick out one or two dates and volunteer at a time that suits you.

Dan, an Ecology and Wildlife Conservation student at BU, volunteers with the Beach Champions. He said: “I spend a lot of time on the beach and in the outdoors, so it was a no-brainer for me to sign up to become a SUBU Beach Champion.

”I wanted to make sure that I was doing my part in maintaining something that I get so much out of. It's also a great way to meet like-minded people and brush up on organisation and management skills, not to mention a positive addition to my CV for future employers in the environmental sector.”

SUBU is lucky enough to partner with a whole host of different charities, who provide a range of unique volunteering opportunities.

If you do decide to volunteer with a charity, you can log your hours and skills on SUBU’s dedicated Volunteer Hub to gain a Bronze, Silver, or Gold Volunteering Award, which will look fab on your CV!

SUBU will be hosting a number of events to celebrate Student Volunteering Week. Follow us on Instagram @subustudentopportunities where we will be releasing more info soon.
