Calling Black student writers - we want to share your writing!

bhmBlack History MonthhomeHomepage

This Black History Month, we want to celebrate and amplify Black voices, experiences and history through a series of articles written by Black students.

We want a variety of article but themes could include:
  • Personal Stories: Share your unique experiences or the stories of influential Black figures who have impacted your life.

  • Cultural Exploration: Dive into the significance of Black culture, from music and art to traditions and cuisine.

  • Historical Insights: Highlight lesser-known historical events, figures, or movements that have shaped Black history.

  • Social Justice & Activism: Discuss the role of Black leaders in social justice movements, both past and present.

  • Allyship: Share some ways that white people can support and empower the Black commmunity throughout the year.

If you want to get involved all we need is a pitch from you by Tuesday 1st October which includes what you want to write about, why you want to write about that specific topic and why you feel it’s important for students to know about it.

The Black History Month team will review the pitches and commission pieces to be posted on the SUBU website throughout October and shared through social media and SUBU emails.

Send your short pitch to subudemocracy@bournemouth.ac.uk with the subject ‘BHM Article Pitch’ by Tuesday 1st October and we’ll be in touch if we want to see the full article.
