After featuring in Nerve Online's mid-month music roundup a few months ago, I thought it was only right to do a little more digging into Jah Wobble's music, and how thankful I am to have done that. I attended one of Jah's gigs on the 10th of this month in a local Guildford pub. It was super intimate which allowed us all the talk to one another - which doesn't typically happen in bigger venues. Before the music started, I even started chatting to a chap outside who happened to work for the Telegraph, and after a conversation about journalism, he gave me his business card and encouraged me to send him articles, like this one. I had driven from Bournemouth to attend the gig and in true photography nightmare fashion, I forgot my camera. Luckily, my mum is a photographer and she was feeling kind enough to let me borrow one of hers - after a lot of lecturing and deliberation, might I add.
Jah came on stage, just a few minutes past 9pm, and the concert was underway. Jah's stage presence filled the room, the crowd was electrified immediately. He was sitting in a chair playing his bass, center stage. Despite the fact he was sitting, all eyes (and lenses) were focused on him. He really loved to act up to the cameras being pointed at him, pouting and making rock star expressions whilst looking directly into the camera. His voice is so great, and his band compliments him perfectly. I really enjoyed "The Suit" from his Metal Box album, released in 2021. Hearing the crowd singing along to every word, I found myself singing along too.
In all, Jah was amazing and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and the energy of the gig. I would definitely recommend if you like funky songs and a heavy bass,
