It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon for Hamworthy Recreation as they cruised to a 4-0 home victory versus Shaftesbury Town FC Reserves.
The Rec took control of possession early on and it wasn’t long before they put the ball in the back of the net thanks to the first of two from Joe Smith in the 22nd minute.
The home side doubled their lead after 35 minutes played. Grant Cormack tried his luck with an incredible long-range strike which was acrobatically tipped on to the crossbar by the Shaftesbury Town goalkeeper. A poor attempt to clear by the defender left the ball bouncing kindly to the feet of Frank Rosenwald. Hamworthy’s striker reacted instinctively and smashed it home on the half-volley. A smart finish to give his side a two-goal cushion before half time.
The second half brought more of the same. Another two goals for Hamworthy as Carl Edwards and Smith’s second saw them comfortably take all three points.
Their fantastic run of form continues with the result making it six wins on the trot, cementing their place at the top of the Jewson Dorset Premier Football League.
The Rec will pay a visit to Barnetts Field to face second place Sturminster Newton United FC in the next set of fixtures, who are only six points behind them; a game that could prove to be pivotal in the quest for the league trophy.
Meanwhile for the away side, the poor result means they sit in seventh place, with the positive being that they do have three games in hand. Next of which will be played at their home venue Cockrams, where they will take on fifth placed Dorchester Sports FC in an attempt to get back to winning ways.
