Team BU claim a resounding win against the University of Worcester to kick off the playoffs.
Team BU secured a comfortable 82-51 win against the University of Worcester this evening.
A jittery start for BU saw Worcestor begin with a 4-0 run, but nerves were tamed quickly following a quick and-1 3 pointer from BU captain Russell Gariepy.
While Worcester regained the lead twice more in the first quarter, they never truly seemed to settle and found difficulty in getting buckets to fall.
An emphatic performance from BU's Clarence Evans personified the energy of the team. A tough 2-3 zone set up with heavy pressure led to turnovers from the visitors, while the BU side never seemed to tire, nabbing quick fast break points or setting up their offensive sets off the steal. One play in particular saw Evans fire a spinning bounce pass that rode the defence like a wave, falling straight to Jaron Kirkley who raised above the rim to throw it back down.
The following three quarters felt more like a scrimmage than a playoff game for BU, who never seemed in danger of losing a lead. This even prompted Worcester's number 9 to laugh while bringing the ball up the court, stating: "If we don't laugh, then I'll cry."
Team BU head coach Luca Dronyk said after the game that he's "always nervous" going into games, but has faith they will always recover, and was happy woth the performance tonight.
"There were times we were shaky but we got over it pretty quickly."
Team BU's next target is Durham University, who aim to smother their championship hopes. Durham will prove to be a tough opponent, as they're yet to receive a loss in the new year.
