With just under four hours to go until kick-off at the Vitality Stadium, AFC Bournemouth have announced that the league fixture with Nottingham Forest has now been postponed as a result of damages to the stadium from Storm Eunice.
In the statement the club have said:
“Structural engineers have carried out an inspection of the stadium and have confirmed that the damage could pose a significant health risk to supporters’ safety.”
The decision comes as Storm Eunice hit the UK today in what some are saying is the strongest storm seen in decades. The Met Office issued a red weather warning to Dorset early this morning.
Nerve Sport understands that club staff were informed at 9am of the possibility the game could be cancelled. Further contact was made at 1pm that the game was ‘on’ and to continue preparations to go into work.
After much deliberation, the respective parties have now come to the decision that the game was not appropriate to commence this evening and staff were notified roughly an hour before the official club announcement.
In their statement, the club have advised that all tickets will remain valid for the rearranged fixture, but refunds will too be available to those unable to make the new date.
