After joining AFC Bournemouth in August during the summer transfer window from Manchester City, head coach Scott Parker yesterday confirmed attacker Morgan Rogers has had his season long loan cut short.

To be exact, Morgan Rogers is still on loan to Bournemouth as by the books as a result of the decision coming after the closure of the January window.

It is understood that a move to Blackpool for Rogers was close to being finalised in January but unfortunately fell through. Parker confirmed two weeks ago that discussions were on going between the club and Manchester City to decide on the future of the 19-year-old.

With Rogers omitted from the 25-man squad named in early February, it became clear that there was no further development for Rogers on the South Coast.

After a tough winter period for the Cherries, reinforcement was needed by the club in January and the signings of Siriki Dembele and Todd Cantwell in particular showed where the Cherries had a cause for concern. In the attacking areas in which Rogers came in to bolster at the start of the season.

A spell with Lincoln City and his time with Manchester City u23s had given the club high hopes for the youngster, but understandably Rogers found it difficult to adapt to the demands of Championship football.

Used as a winger, Rogers made 15 appearances for the Cherries with only one start amongst them. He was able to find the net on a single occasion in the dramatic 3-2 loss away to Luton Town two weeks into the new year.

In what turned out to be a loan spell to forget for Rogers, at only 19 years old he has a lot of time to continue developing. Sometimes loan spells can act as trial and error in which results can be learnt from. This is the case for Rogers who will now go back to training with the Manchester City setup. As a result of the finer details, he will be unable to participate in any competitive matches until the loan spell has come to an end.

“Morgan has gone back to Manchester City. We have come to an agreement for Morgan, and he is now back in training with them.” Parker confirmed in yesterday’s press conference.

Despite not having the impact the club would have hoped Rogers has a long way to go in his career and a lot of time to continue his development. We wish him the best in his future endeavours.
