Poole Town’s winless streak continues, as points are shared with Taunton

The Dolphins got their second draw in a row, after sharing the spoils away to Taunton Town FC after Tony Lee equalised for Tom Killick's side with a second half penalty.

The game began with Poole under pressure, as the home side applied themselves from the off. Tommy Scott was forced to make a fantastic double save, in a one-on-one situation against Jack Veale in the early stages of the game.

In the 9th minute, Taunton found a gap in the Poole defence, forcing a foul on the edge of the box. This lead to Scott making a freekick save low-down, pushing the ball round the post.

However, Scott wasn’t quite as lucky when Ross Stearn tapped in from close range after the Dolphins keeper parried a Jay Foulston effort in the 25th minute.

Poole managed to respond positively though, with Luke Burbidge belting a close-range volley just over the bar. Attacking aggression continued for the Dolphins, with Sam Jackson having his shot blocked by Foulston at the last moment just before the break.

The away side maintained their offensive push in the second half. Lee had a shot cleared off the line, after Ioan Richard blocked an almost certain leveller. Their efforts were finally rewarded, after Dickson was fouled in the box, allowing Lee to score a confident penalty in the 58th minute.

Both sides shared attacking success in the latter stages of the game, in what was a nervy end to the game for both sides. There was a level of restraint, with the two evenly matched teams unsure whether to seek a winner, or settle for the point.

Poole remain a point ahead of Taunton in 8th place in the Southern League and face off against Kings Langley at the Tatnam Ground on Saturday. They were shedelued to play Hartley Wintney tomorrow night but the game has been called off due to damage incurred at The Memorial Plating Fields from Storm Arwen.
