Both sides seemed nervous at the beginning of the match, but Poole Town dominated possession.
Top goal scorer Tony Lee was brought down in the box but penalty shouts were waved away by the referee.
Lee looked in discomfort from the challenge. Although physio attention was needed, Lee stayed on the pitch.
The Dolphins were awarded a freekick after midfielder Luke Holmes was bundled over just outside the edge of the box.
Corby Moore delivered a dangerous ball into the box which was met by Spetch’s bullet header in the 16th minute.
The keeper had absolutely no chance from the point-blank range as it went just under the crossbar.
At 1-0 up, Poole Town strangely seemed less confident than before which is unusual for this side.
Walton Causals played a promising ball across the goal in the 25th minute, but luckily for the home side, no one was on the end to meet it.
Poole saw an opportunity missed to double their lead in the minute of additional time.
Great feet from Pardoe down the right side of the pitch allowed a perfect cross to Lee in the box. The striker couldn’t make it count though as his shot at the centre of the goal was well held by the keeper.
If that was on either side, it was yet another goal for the number nine. It ended 1-0 in the first half.
As the second half commenced Poole seemed to gather momentum.
Tony Lee attempted the spectacular in the 69th minute. His overhead kick effort almost connected from a set piece but Walton were able to clear their lines.
At this point, Poole seemed in control but couldn’t get a goal that would kill the game off.
In the closing 10 minutes of the game, the away side really turned it up a notch.
Drama in the 90th minute almost saw the Stags nick a point off the home side as a header from a corner was cleared off the line.
The match ended 1-0 to Poole, with Walton missing a golden opportunity at the death.
The Dolphins now sit in 9th place with two wins in three for Tom Killick’s side.
Poole Town now set their sights on the Dorset Senior Cup final on Tuesday night, away to Hamworthy United at 7:45pm.
