Following a 3-1 defeat away to AFC Bournemouth, Lee Bowyer reflected on what went wrong for his side.
“We practically gifted them two goals but I must say, the players are giving everything for the club,” said the former Leeds midfielder after the game.
The Blues haven’t had a win in their last four games, but were given a glimmer of hope after Onel Hernandez grabbed a goal back to make it 2-1 in the 69th minute.
Bowyer believed it was an opportunity missed and added: “They were on the ropes, we had them, but we didn’t take our chances and they are more consistent."
The away side manager also mentioned his sides’ defensive issues, with George Friend currently injured.
He said: “ I wonder if Scotty (Scott Parker) could give me a few defenders, I know he’s got a few spare!”
The Birmingham manager further revealed why he hadn’t looking into the free agent market for defending options in the January transfer window.
He believes It would’ve been “a waste of money”.
He added: “These players in the free agent market haven’t kicked a ball since February… last February that is! By the time we would’ve had them fit, George Friend would be ready to play again."
Birmingham remain in 18th position in The Championship, and play 8th placed Luton Town in their next fixture.
