Andoni Iraola praised his side's “deserved victory” as Bournemouth defeated Manchester City 2-1 at the Vitality Stadium.
Goals from Antoine Semenyo and Evanilson gave the Cherries their first-ever win over the Citizen's, and ended their opponents 32-game run without a loss in the league.
This result leaves Iraola’s men in eighth and just three points off a Champions League spot, having claimed seven out of a possible nine points from games against Aston Villa, Arsenal and Manchester City.
“I'm very proud of this performance." said Iraola.
"I think we deserved the win and to beat them deservedly is even more difficult."
When it was mentioned that he'd finally got the better of Pep Guardiola, Iraola jokingly said; “I’ve lost so many times against him, especially as a player.
"You must enjoy it as it does not happen a lot.”
Semenyo claimed his fourth Premier League goal of the season, swivelling and firing past Ederson into the bottom corner, after neat control from a Milos Kerkez cross.
“We demand a lot from him as we know he has a lot to give,” said Iraola, when asked about the attacker’s impact on the team.
On celebrating the victory, Iraola said; “We will enjoy the win today before turning our attention onto Brentford tomorrow.”
