Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl revealed how his regular trips to Bournemouth's beaches won't be ruined following his sides 1-0 win over Bournemouth on Wednesday night and was full of praise for match winner, Che Adams.
Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl says it is “good” to know when he passes Vitality Stadium he won’t have to think about losing after his side beat Bournemouth 1-0.
Wednesday night’s Premier League tie saw Gary O’Neil’s Cherries side suffer their first defeat under the interim boss as Che Adams’ glancing header flew past Neto in the ninth minute. But despite having more possession throughout the game, and dominating the second half, the Cherries were unable to unlock the Saints defence, leaving Hasenhuttl pleased his trips to Dorset’s sunny beaches won’t be ruined.
When asked after the game about being able to celebrate the win with the away fans, the Saints boss replied: “Yeah, especially because I don’t want to pass this Stadium [Vitality] when I go to Bournemouth beaches and always think about how I lost here.
“I am very often here and enjoy the beautiful landscape here, so it is good when you pass here and you haven’t lost here.”
Hasenhuttl also expressed the importance of the win with his side not having won since August 30, a 2-1 victory over Chelsea.
He added: “It was an important win for us, everybody in the stadium for our fans especially and the first half for our players an important win and I think it was a deserved one.”
One player who stood out in particular for the Saints boss was match winner Adams. The Scotland international had not scored in seven games and his performance certainly impressed his boss.
“Unbelievable workload today,” said Hassenhuttel of Adams..
“I must say, I have never seen him fighting like this upfront. It's a pity he didn't score his second goal but it’s important he scored the winner today for him and the work he has done these last weeks.”
He continued: “And he also gets criticism when he doesn't score and gets chances.
“We always try to put pressure away from him and protect him and it's important for me that he is a player that works massively for the team and then success comes.”
