Hamworthy United made their second cup final in as many years after defeating Southern Premier League outfit Wimborne Town 2-1 at the County Ground on Tuesday night.

The Hammers booked their place in this season's final with goals courtesy of Lee Francis and Jack Lovell and followed up last season's Wessex League Cup final triumph with another strong cup run - this time in the Dorset Senior Cup.

Wimborne had levelled the tie after Francis' opener just after the break through Reagan Mason, but Lovell's late winner means the Poole-based club will face another local rival in the form of Poole Town.

The Dolphins had already booked their place in the final after beating Portland United 3-0 earlier this month at the Black Gold Stadium. The Dolphins last won the competiotn in 2019 and will be considered favourites for the tie and have hit form just at the right time, winning all of their last four games in all competions.

Hamworthy though have been in excellent form this season and are currently third in the Wessex League Premier Division, just four point off league leaders Horndean with three games in hand and despite being underdogs, they will fancy their chances against Poole after dispatching Wimborne.

A date for the final has yet to be finalised but it is sure to be a great contest between neighbouring clubs.
