Amass Zaroury and Manuel Benson both scored twice to send Bournemouth out of the FA Cup and compound the team's recent run of poor results. Benson had put the visitor's ahead before Ryan Christie levelled the tie up but Zaroury's quikfire brace just before the break put the Clarets in charge. Dominic Solanke's 5th goal of the season had given the home fans some hope after the break but Benson bookend the scoring with a second just before the hour mark.

Gary O’Neil’s Bournemouth side came into the game after four straight defeats since the Premier League season resumed after the World Cup, whilst their opponents, Burnley had won their last six league games and are flying-high in the Championship.

The last time the Clarets faced the Cherries was in February 2021 - also in the FA Cup - with Jonathon Woodgate’s side coming out 2-0 winners at Turf Moor.

Bournemouth made three changes from the 3-0 loss to Manchester United in midweek with rare starts for Jack Stephens and Joe Rothwell who came in for Chris Mepham and Jefferson Lerma respectively. Jordan Zemura reclaimed his place at left back with captain Lloyd Kelly only making the bench.

Burnely got off to a flyer as Johann Berg Gudmunsson intercepted a poor pass from Adam Smith about 30 yards from goal, the Icelandic midfielder then threaded the ball through to Benson who fired home from inside the box to put the visitors ahead after just six minutes.

The Cherries, who were not deterred by going a goal behind, hit back six minutes laters as Christie intercepted a wayward backpass from Josh Cullen and tapped into to an empty net from eight yards.

Burnley came close again moments later as Zaroury tried to bend an effort into Mark Travers’ far post but the winger’s effort went just wide.

With game entering the 26th minute Kompany was forced into an early change as Taylor Harwood-Bellis was forced off with an injury and was replaced by Luke McNally.

In what was shaping up to be quite an open game, Bournemouth had the next moment after Smith won the ball on the right flank before Christie and Dominic Solanke combined, however, the Bournemouth striker was unable to pick out a team mate with his low cross as he drove into the box from the byline.

But things would only get worse for O’Neil's side as Zaroury grabbed a quickfire brace before halftime. The Moroccan's first came after Ashley Barnes had picked the pocket of Lewis Cook on the edge of the box before finding Josh Brownhill inside the penalty area. The Burnley captain then set up Zaroury to tap home from six yards. A quick VAR check confirmed Zaroury was onside as Brownhill squared the ball across the face of goal.

Then, just minutes later it was 3-1 to the visitors. Brownhill and Zaroury combining again, this time from the right hand side. Zaroury drove into the box and played a one-two with his captain before jinxing past a couple of Bournemouth defenders to finish neatly with his right foot into the far corner.

Bournemouth did manage a couple of late chances before halftime. First Christie picked up a loose ball in the box from a corner but could not direct his shot on target and then the Scot blasted a freekick straight into the Burnley wall from 20 yards.

O’Neil was clearly not happy with his side at the break and made three changes. Captain Kelly came in for Marcos Senesi in defence, Kieffer Moore replaced Rothwell which saw Phil Billing drop into midfield, whilst Jack Stacey replaced Jordan Zemura and slotted in at right back with Smith switching to the left.

The changes made an instant impact as Solanke claimed his 5th goal of the season just three minutes after the restart. Moore was at the heart of the move as the Welsh international held the ball up on the edge of the box before setting up Christie who drove across the box before slipping in Solanke. The Cherries number 9’s shot was met by the hand of Bailey Peacock-Farrell, but the striker followed up the ball to head home from inches off the line as two Burnley defenders charged the ball down.

But it was Burnely who found the back of the net next. Benson claimed his second of the game after Barnes slipped the ball into the path of the winger who took his goal well and rifled the ball past Mark Travers just before the hour mark. Smith had played the Burnley man onside as the rest of the back line had stepped up.

The Cherries did almost grab a third when Chritie's header was cleared off the line from a corner with Kelly finding the bar with his head from the rebound.

With 20 minutes left to go both sides made a few changes. Bournemouth brought on Siriki Dembele for Christie whilst Burnley replaced Benson with Nathan Tella and Gudmunsson with Jack Cork.

As the rain kept coming down on the Dorset coast the game started to drift away from Bournemouth. Smith received a yellow card for a late tackle on Tella as the game entered the final 10 minutes with the Cherries looking out of ideas as Burnley controlled the game with their two goal lead.

A cross from Dembele that flew high and wide to the back post seemed to some up the way the game had gone for Bournemouth and it was the moment that marked an exodus for some fans who had seen enough by this point. The game had long gone for the Cherries who had looked out of ideas once Burnley got their fourth and exited the cup at the third round to the sound of their own fans booing them off the field.
