AFC Bournemouth progressed to the FA Cup quarter finals, following an eventful home victory over Wolves, through a penalty shootout.
The game started rather slow but picked up pace with some half-chances for Milos Kerkez and Rayan Ait-Nouri.
The biggest chance of the first half came 30 minutes in with a goal from Evanilson who had started his first game since his injury.
Antoine Semenyo had a left footed shot saved by Sam Johnstone, which left the Brazilian striker to tap it in off the rebound and put the Cherries a goal up.
The home side thought they had doubled their lead with a goal disallowed ten minutes before half time.
Kerkez was found on the end of a Bournemouth corner at the back post and managed to bundle the ball into the goal but after a seven-minute VAR check, the goal was disallowed for offside on Dean Huijsen.
The second half started slowly but it was a moment of magic from Matheus Cunha to equalise, who shot from distance and scored past Kepa with an outrageous effort.
The home side were struggling to create but the introduction of Justin Kluivert and Dango Ouattara allowed the Cherries to push on with fresh legs.
The full 90 minutes saw the sides draw level, but the game went into extra time with both sides aiming to progress into the next stage of the FA Cup.
Chances from Tyler Adams and Daniel Jebbison saw Bournemouth come close to scoring but were stopped by some good saves and a block off the line.
Johnstone kept Wolves in this match with numerous saves, including an acrobatic save to prevent Lewis Cook’s header from winning the game late into additional time.
One minute from penalties, Cunha was sent off following a bizarre outburst on Kerkez, who victim of a kick and a headbutt.
The game was decided in a penalty shootout with misses from Matt Doherty and Boubacar Traore sending the Cherries through into the quarter finals of the FA Cup for just the third time in their history.
The Cherries will host Manchester City at the Vitality Stadium in the last eight.
