AFC Bournemouth Women beat Swindon Town 4-0 on Sunday at the Vitality Stadium, to move a point behind the visitors in the table.

Goals from Erin Bloomfield, Molly Barron-Clarke and a brace from Katie James helped the Cherries make it eight wins in eight league games.

It was Bournemouth’s first game at the Vitality Stadium this season, with 6,054 in attendance.

The win now leaves the Cherries in second place, only one point behind Swindon in the table with two games in hand.

Before the game began, the Vitality fell silent to observe a minute’s silence for Remembrance Sunday, as both managers laid wreaths on the pitch.

Bournemouth controlled the majority of the match, and saw most of the ball over the 90 minutes.

The Cherries got their first chance just 20 seconds into the game, as Ellie Strippel fired over the bar after a fast counter attack.

The hosts kept knocking on the Swindon door, and got what they deserved in the 34th minute, as Poole-born Katie James fired the opener into the visitor's net.

It didn’t take long for James to get her second, as she drove home a long range effort from outside the box in the 40th minute.

Bournemouth could’ve had a lot more than two goals in the first period, but they went in 2-0 up at the break.

As the second half began, the hosts thought they’d scored just two minutes in, when Strippel put the ball across the line, however it was ruled out for offside.

It was then a period of missed chances for both teams, before Molly Barron-Clarke got the Cherries 3rd of the afternoon in the 65th minute, with a calm finish past Hannah Cox.

Substitute Erin Bloomfield was tripped in the box to win Bournemouth a penalty, which she calmly slotted into the bottom-right corner 15 minutes from time.

The penalty made it 12 goals in Bournemouth’s last six games for Bloomfield, who seemingly can’t be stopped at the moment.

Chloe Gilroy, Alisha Buckingham and Maisy Smith were all brought on from the bench and helped the Cherries see out the rest of the game to earn a brilliant three points.

Player of the match was given to Bournemouth midfielder Katie James who scored twice and helped the hosts control the midfield.

The Cherries now have a week break before travelling to 10th place Portishead Town next Sunday.
