Charlton Athletic knocked Bournemouth Ladies out of the Women’s FA Cup this afternoon, taking home a damning 6-0 win from the Vitality Stadium.
AFC Bournemouth Ladies took on Charlton Athletic in the third round of the Adobe FA Women’s Cup at the Vitality Stadium, hoping to continue their positive performance in the competition so far.
However, it wasn’t to be for the hosts as a series of goals from Charlton Athletic sent their winning hopes crashing down.
Charlton claimed their first goal in the 55th minute with a shot from Muya making its way past the keeper.
The second came only moments later in the 58th minute with an own goal from the hosts.
The 61st minute provided goal number three for the visitors, with Muya scoring her second.
Addison tore apart Bournemouth’s defense to make it four goals for Charlton, after being substituted on in the second half.
The 81st minute sent Bournemouth’s hopes crashing down as Johnson aimed past the Cherries defence, and straight for the back of the net, bringing the scoreline up to a damning 5-0 to the visitors.
Humphrey provided the sixth and final goal for Charlton Athletic in the 91st minute, solidifying their 6-0 win and position in the Cup competition.
This marks the end of a promising run of results for Bournemouth Ladies in the Women’s FA Cup, who claimed a 2-1 win away at Swindon Town in the last round.
The match kicked off promising for Bournemouth with a number of attempts from Charlton Athletic being blocked by the Cherries fierce defence.
The hosts also made a number of challenges, with a corner seeing Buckingham for the Cherries cross the ball into the box – but the promising shot was met by a wall of opposition players.
The Cherries claimed a free kick with Venditto sending the ball flying into the box before it was caught by the keeper.
Charlton looked to get ahead from a corner shortly before halftime, but it was swiftly cleared, leaving the scoreline flat at the break.
In the second half Charlton made a daring attempt in the box which was swiftly intercepted by the Cherries, who charged the ball down the other end of the pitch.
But this did not last long as Charlton later thrashed the home side with six goals.
Charlton Athletic now progress to the fourth round of the competition, playing their next FA Cup match in January – meanwhile Bournemouth look to bring home a win away at Keynsham Town next Sunday.
