AFC Bournemouth made a late comeback to draw 2-2 with Sheffield United at the Vitality Stadium with Ünal scoring a 91st Minuite equaliser to salvage a point and prevent a shock defeat to a struggling Blades Side,
The Visitors had the first big opportunity, Ben Bereton Diaz was one-on-one with Neto but he wasted his chance firing straight at the cherries keeper.
Shortly after Milos Kerkez was in the book after nine minutes, his foul on Tom Davies looked bad but the replay showed it to be a harsh booking from Anthony Taylor.
The Cherries' fortunes looked to have changed with Dominic Solanke winning a penalty at the expense of Davies, but Solanke tripped himself up with his standing foot in the run-up, slipping and blasting it over the bar.
Bournemouth didn’t stop and Anthonie Smenyio hit a curling shot on the edge of the area forcing a good stop from Ivo Grbic.
In the 28th minute, The Blades took a surprising lead, Jared Bogle’s shot led to a great save by Neto but Gustavo Hamer was there to fire home the rebound and make it 1-0.
The hosts had one more big chance before the interval, Justin Kluivert broke past the backline and Ivo Grbic came flying out of his box but some good goalkeeping denied a leveller.
The second half started slowly, Andoni Iraola introduced Dango Ouattara, Luis Sinnisterra and Enes Ünal in the hope their fortunes would change but things got from bad to worse, a corner from the visitors was defended poorly and Jack Robinson was there at the far post to make it 2-0, Sheffield United were on for a real shock on the south coast.
The Cherries needed to respond and Dominic Solanke had the ball in the back of the net almost instantly, Bournemouth thought they were back in it but VAR intervened and a harsh handball call denied the hosts what could’ve been a massive goal.
Bournemouth were resilient and kept pushing for a way back, a corner from Ryan Christie found the head of Dango Ouattara and Bournemouth pulled one back making for an interesting conclusion to the match.
The pressure kept mounting and when the board went up for eight minutes of added time, the Vitality stadium got lively and a minute later an Alex Scott corner was cleared off the line before the second ball was put back into the box for Enes Ünal equalise.
The Visitors held out the waves of Cherries pressure in the hunt for a winner and the points were shared in a result that will be seen as two points dropped for both sides.
Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder spoke about a hard week for his side “It's been a long week for everybody, there’s been a lot of pain running through the group and the only way you answer that is attitude over ability, attitude over game plan, attitude over everything”
Andoni Iraola was unhappy with the result, “I don’t think it’s a good result for us, we wanted the three points and we struggled with the long balls to Mcburnie, they were very direct.” Despite that, he was happy with the way his players “fought until the end.”
The Cherries will be fully focused on Wednesday night as they welcome Luton Town to the Vitality Stadium.
