In a game which was a must-win for both sides, Bournemouth came out victorious against a confused Leeds United side as the Cherries picked up all three points moving into 13th in the Premier League.
It was a quick start at the Vitality, upon the fifth minute, Jefferson Lerma was dispossessed midway inside the Cherries half allowing Leeds United’s Crysencio Summerville to earn a free kick right on the edge of the area due to handball.
However, Marc Roca’s low-drilled free kick came to nothing as it was saved well by Bournemouth's Brazilian keeper Neto.
Just seven minutes later, Jack Harrison’s close-range shot was brilliantly blocked by Adam Smith with Bournemouth struggling to get a hold of the ball inside the opening fifteen.
The Cherries did bounce back however as Dango Ouattara forced an effort goal bound, a good block from Robin Koch allowed for an acrobatic attempt through Vina although it flew over the bar.
The first twenty minutes were heavily end to end as Summerville and Bamford caused trouble for the home side, but a quick counterattack allowed the Cherries to find the first of the afternoon.
Philip Billings' attempt was forced out as far as Lerma who made up for his early error, finding the top corner from the edge of the area with all the time in the world to pick his spot.
Jefferson Lerma didn’t stop there though, as he netted the second of the afternoon. A Meslier mistake from the corner allowed the ball to kindly fall for the Cherries number 8 and he rifled home for his second.
The Whites response started with a misplaced Lerma pass, Wilfried Gnonto then sent a looping ball into the area which was nodded home by Patrick Bamford for his 6th of the season.
It was a quiet start to the second half with the first chance coming in The Cherries favour on the 59th minute.
Ouattara did well to keep the ball in play, finding Ryan Christie who managed to clip the ball into Billing who was left alone at the back post, but the midfielder was unable to connect with his overhead-kick attempt.
Dango Ouattara caused more problems down the right flank after collecting a long through ball from Neto, Solanke was poised waiting for the cutback and made no mistake when it came, poking home for Bournemouth’s third of the game in the 63rd minute.
Leeds were not down and out however forcing Cherries keeper Neto into three fine saves in as many minutes but failed to add the goods.
Eighty-one minutes into play, substitute Kieffer Moore had a golden opportunity to send Leeds fans home, but he failed to keep his header low, and it sailed into the stands from six yards out.
Just as stoppage time clocked on Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo found the back of the net for his first Premier League goal rolling it past Illan Meslier with ease to put salt in the wound for a 4-1 win.
The Cherries now move into 13th in the league, meanwhile today's visitors Leeds United have found themselves just one point from safety sitting in 16th with a trip to league leaders Manchester City next Saturday and third-placed Newcastle United the following weekend.
