Bournemouth stun Luton in comeback at the Vitality Stadium.
Three goals in the first half for Luton and four in the second for Bournemouth saw three points to the Cherries as they prevailed on a memorable night.
Tom Lockyer made a pre-match appearance since his collapse back in December, a warm welcome to the occasion for both sets of fans.
Luton opened the scoring early on; Jordan Clark led a charge down the right side, and his cross found Chong who nodded home from close range to make it 1-0 in just six minutes – the start Iraola wouldn’t have wanted.
Bournemouth started to grow into the game, pressing higher yet struggling to conjure any danger.
The Cherries worries increased when Chong played Alfie Doughty in behind on the left side.
Doughty did well to cut the ball back and find an in-running Ogbene who tapped home to make it two to the travelling side.
Frustrations were starting to show as home fans started calling for a response – they were met by a Luton third, courtesy of Ross Barkley.
The 30-year-old picked up a pass and found the top corner from the right side of the box
Bournemouth were victims to Luton’s game plan; three counterattacks saw three goals as the Cherries trailed at the break.
If Bournemouth were to bring the game back in the second half they needed to act quickly.
Dominic Solanke wriggled his way through the defence with a clever back-heel and turn, his first clear-cut opportunity was converted; Bournemouth had one back.
Bournemouth began to raise the pressure and pursue the goal difference.
A Cherries corner bounced around in the box before a looping header by defender Illia Zabarnyi went just over the line and narrowed the score to just 3-2.
Minutes later, Bournemouth had their equaliser; Semenyo scored with a low drive just outside the area.
The comeback was complete within twenty minutes of the second half.
After a rampant display to get on level terms, the game was back open and for the taking.
Bournemouth were a different side and Semenyo, having scored already, led the charge and netted emphatically to give the Cherries the lead for the first time making it 4-3.
Similar to the first, after finding room on the right side, Semenyo pursued the box and unleashed an effort which gave Kaminski no chance.
Nine minutes of added time didn’t seem enough for Luton despite a three-goal advantage earlier in the game.
A deserved turnaround win for Bournemouth will be accepted gratefully by Iraola.
