Bournemouth picked up their first win in five thanks to goals from Lowe, Stanislas, Marcondes and Anthony capping off an impressive display from the Cherries.

Gary O’Neil made nine changes to the team that lost at Elland Road on Saturday, with Travers and Mepham the only players to keep their place in the team. Gary O’Neil also handed first starts of the season to Jamal Lowe, Stephens, Rothwell and captain Junior Stanislas. Frank Lampard made wholesale changes to his Everton side, with former Cherries goalkeeper Asmir Begovic captaining the Toffees.

The first clear cut chance came in the seventh minute for the hosts and it gave them an early lead as some good build up in the centre of the pitch from Anthony and Stanislas lead to Jamal Lowe receiving the ball just inside the box on the left hand side, he cut inside and his shot deflected off James Garner and looped over Asmir Begovic to give the Cherries the lead and Lowe his first goal of the season.

Everton were quick to respond though, breaking Bournemouth’s defensive line with some sharp play between Maupay and Doucoure, and the midfielder slotted through Tom Davies one on one, but the toffees player blazed his shot into the Steve Fletcher stand in the first of Everton’s chances in the first half.

Mark Travers was called into action for the first time in the thirteenth minute when a failed Cherries clearance fell to Garner on the edge of the box, but his half volley was tipped over the bar by the Bournemouth goalkeeper.

The toffees dominated the opening 20 minutes and it resulted in another chance when Vinagre’s floated cross was headered by Mina into the path of Anthony Gordon, who from the edge of the six-yard box put the ball over the bar.

A few minutes later centre back Nathan Patterson was allowed to roam deep into the Bournemouth half, laying the ball off to Anthony Gordon whose shot was stopped by a great challenge from Mepham, with referee Darren England awarding a goal kick to the Cherries.

The rest of the first half had little to offer, with no clear-cut chances and both sets of fans showing their disproval to their respective teams, with the travelling Evertonians booing as the toffees played the ball around the defence.

Anthony Gordon received the first booking of the match in the closing moments of the first half for his late challenge on Jordan Zemura, who went down injured earlier in the first half, but he was okay to continue.

The first half was a quiet affair but Gary O’Neil’s side held the lead after Jamal Lowe’s early goal with Bournemouth’s only shot on target. Everton had some clear-cut chances in the opening 20 minutes with the majority of their dominance coming through the midfield, but they failed to convert leaving them looking for a goal to stop consecutive round 3 exits for the toffees.

The second half started just like the first, with Bournemouth grabbing a goal to double their lead after Mason Holgate slipped trying to receive a Begovic pass, the ball fell straight to Ryan Christie, who’s cross was played to Jamal Lowe who squared the ball to Junior Stanislas for an easy tap in that doubled the Cherries’ lead and put them in a stronger position to reach the fourth round for the first time since the 2018/19 season.

Another poor Everton defensive error gifted Bournemouth another chance as Anthony cut in from the left and shot, but the Englishman’s effort was well saved by Asmir Begovic.

Jordan Zemura continued to show his pace despite his ankle issues continuing into the second half, bursting down the left wing and delivering crosses into the box, however they weren’t met by any Bournemouth heads. This culminated in a great chance in the 63rd  minute as the Zimbabwean’s cross found Jamal Lowe who should’ve done better from just outside the 6-yard-box, but he headed over.

Bournemouth made their first changes of the evening in the 65th minute with Zemura and Stanislas making way for Fredericks and Marcondes.

Everton pulled one back shortly after through Demarai Gray after link up play from Iwobi and Maupay fed the ball to the Englishman just inside Bournemouth’s box and he curled his effort into the top corner and past an outstretched Mark Travers to bring the toffees back into the game.

Everton dominated possession in the final twenty minutes, but Bournemouth would be the next to grab a goal as Emiliano Marcondes restored the Cherries’ 2-goal lead after a good counter attack and play between Anthony and Zemura gave Jamal Lowe a great chance on the penalty spot, but his shot rebounded to Marcondes and the Dane slotted home to send Bournemouth into the fourth round of the Carabao Cup

Bournemouth made it 4-1 moments later when Siriki Dembele poached the ball from Patterson. Dembele played the ball to Anthony who cut in past the Everton defence and slotted into the bottom left hand corner to give the cherries a three goal lead.

Overall it was Everton's own defensive mistakes that lead to a 4-1 scoreline, however the Cherries and interim boss Gary O'Neil will be delighted with their performance, with Jamal Lowe, Jordan Zemura and Jaidon Anthony being the highlights of an impressive display. Bournemouth will now go into the fourth round draw on Thursday night after the conclusion of Manchester United vs Aston Villa.
