This event would feature film screenings, lectures, short-plays, spoken-word poetry from BU students, Staff, and Alumni. The Artist as Public Intellectual is organised by the HEIF-UKRI-funded research network, Developing a Media Decolonisation Imaginary (DMDI), and Student Union at Bournemouth University (SUBU). The Vice Chancelor will be attending as she will give an remark to kick off the event.

It would also feature panel discussions which entails the screening of films (and film excerpts) made by Bournemouth University students, alumni and staff, between 2021 and 2023. One of such is Red, Blue, Green (2023), a film by Amrutha Palaserri, BU alumnae of the MA Directing course, recently nominated for Best Alternative/Experimental Film at the Student Academy Award (OSCARS). Also, amongst films to be screened is Sparrow’s Song (forthcoming). A drama series’ pilot targeted at Netflix Africa, this transnational piece was co-created by 40 students, alumni, academics of BU and the DMDI network, in collaboration with the Nigerian film industry, Nollywood.
