Robbie McGann

Do you think more can be done to make our education better?

I do. And that’s why I’m standing for this role.

My five priorities in this role would be:

  • Lobby to make the curriculum in every course more focused towards getting jobs and planning out careers that can help every student into job security after uni.
  • Ensure every student gets the skills they need for their personal career ambitions, whether technical, academic or soft skills.
  • Solve problems quicker. As a student rep, I know it can be hard to effect changes quickly and sometimes it can feel like only the next year will benefit from improvements. Well, you should too. I’ll improve the student rep network to aim to solve as many problems as possible within the term they are raised in.
  • Make mental health support more personalised. From my own experience and from friends I’ve known who have also struggled, I know every mental health issue is different for every individual. I’ll lobby to make the support you receive on your course reflect your personal circumstances, not just in extensions but throughout modules.
  • Work across the university and SUBU to champion education that challenges discrimination and seeks to change harmful behaviours for the better. I’m committed to being a strong ally in this role and helping to educate for a better society.

If elected, I’ll immediately establish a consultation for me to know the needs of students on all courses to drive through improvement on these five priorities and to collect new ideas from students to implement. I support and pledge to continue the progress the university and SUBU have already made. But I think we can go further.

If you want more to be done to make our education better, vote for me.
