Hello! I'm Mehardeep Kukreja, and I am running to be your VP Welfare & Community.
Every student deserves to feel safe and supported. As a Psychology student who arrived to a new country for an intense Masters programme, I learnt and understood how effective mental wellbeing support, community building and genuine inclusion can go a long way.
My time at BU has only crossed a little over a year, but in that time I've held multiple leadership roles, served as a student rep, helped drive the psychology society, pioneered a society within 3 months of joining and contributed to several others, consistently striving to create spaces where every student— home or international, feels heard and seen. Being active in the Student Union has meant that I have valuable insights into the challenges students face.
I now wish to integrate my energy for positive change with all of this experience to represent YOU on a bigger platform. And so, if elected, I will:
Enhance student security because safety matters, both on and off campus. I will advocate for better campus lighting and effective patrols.
Prioritise mental wellbeing and inclusion. University life can be overwhelming and lonely, so I will push for de-stress events and create safe and inclusive spaces with accessible mental health resources.
Improve housing support to provide better guidance and contract support, along with a review system to help students make informed decisions and hold landlords accountable.
Invest in the existing, well-performing initiatives like the Period Poverty Scheme and the Community Kitchen and develop them further to reduce the stress of cost of living.
I wish to make BU a place where each one of us feels safe and accepted. Let's work together!
