I’m Kyla Richer, a Canadian international student completing my master’s at Bournemouth University. You may recognize me as a SUBU Community Warden checking on off-campus students or as a student ambassador from my work. I want to continue immersing myself in the student community.
As a master’s student, I have already experienced an undergraduate degree. I aim to use my past experiences to understand my peers’ struggles and improve university life.
My goal is to create a supportive, inclusive, and healthy environment where every student feels empowered—both mentally and physically. I will champion initiatives addressing diverse student needs, ensuring no one is left behind.
Here’s how I plan to make a difference:
-
Promoting Mental & Physical Well-being: Advocate for beginner-friendly gym courses, more gym accessibility and campus sun lamps to support students, especially in overcast weather.
-
Supporting Students with Disabilities & Chronic Conditions: As a student with a disability, I understand these challenges. I will work with students managing disabilities, chronic pain, or illnesses and petition for a university fund to help cover recurring or emergency medication costs.
-
Empowering Students Living Away from Home: Organize workshops on essential life skills like cooking and budgeting. Promote healthy eating initiatives to combat vitamin deficiencies, especially given the cost-of-living crisis.
-
Building Community & Connection: Host wellness events to foster belonging and combat loneliness on Talbot and Lansdowne Campuses. Organize wellness trips to encourage outdoor experiences and support SUBU’s community garden project.
-
Continuing Essential Campaigns: Ensure free menstrual products remain available campus-wide and expand access to sexual health resources.
Together, we can create a campus where every student feels supported, healthy, and connected. Let’s build a community where no one struggles in silence, and everyone has the tools to succeed.
