Hi, my name is Cat Morris. As current Part Time Officer for Science and Technology and previous student and department representative, I feel that I have gained relevant experience and skills that I feel could allow me to support students’ education. If I am elected as VP Education, I would commit to:
Accessible learning for all students:
- International students receive more support - Achieve through increased support of Personal Tutors and continuations of ‘Mastering The BU Academic Experience’ sessions that began this year.
- More support for ALS students within their course - Achieve through collaboration between ‘Engage’, ALS and BU to enhance awareness of students’ needs and further push for recorded lectures.
- Better online learning resources - Reinforce that all content (including content only accessible in-person) is accessible via Brightspace for students to have a fairer advantage.
- Improve timetabling - Continue to work and end timetabling issues.
Enhance Teaching Quality:
- Lecture slides include updated materials/research - Achieve through encouraging lecturers to update resources and add relevant content/practical skills to enhance student opportunities.
- Regular training for lecturers - Achieve through introducing regular training for lecturers to prevent further decline of teaching quality.
Assessments and Feedback:
- Clearer assignment briefs - Achieve through encouraging course leaders to identify feedback and implement suggested amendments, and to further detail the importance of wording and layout of assignment briefs to unit leaders.
- Feedback is more detailed and personalised - Achieve through reinforcing the importance of personalised feedback to markers and placing general assessment feedback on Brightspace announcements.
- Transparency in course feedback - Lobby courses to be transparent with course feedback through Brightspace announcements.
If you would like to see this improvement at your time at university, vote Cat Morris for VP Education!
