In my eyes a Student Union President should be competent, compassionate and strong-willed. Which are all traits that I know I possess. Along with this I have started to acquire an understanding of how to run events and have built strategies for what I want to achieve. The changes that I will bring, if chosen, are listed below:

  • Give extra support to students struggling with mental health implications

Student life has got a tendency to be very fast paced and it can be tough to focus in on what could be wrong in life. From potential trauma to mental health illnesses, it can prove difficult to address when you’re eyes are always on what assignment is due next. So I would look to start a support group in which people would be able to speak on how they’re feeling in case they can’t find that support closer to home.

  • Broaden the scope of events run by SUBU

I have been fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to help at multiple different SUBU events and, whilst I have appreciated all of them, at times I do feel as though we could doing more. So with this I would look to broaden the type of events run by SUBU, so we can encourage more participation from students and get more people involved.

  • Assist students in understanding their placement opportunities

It can prove quite difficult for students to understand the full extent of their placement opportunities. I would love to assist with this by creating a forum separate to all listed units, that’s solely for students with a sandwich degree. In which students and placement coordinators can discuss different conventions or possibilities for finding placement and allow students that want placement to better understand how they can get it.
