Start a new Club or Society
Starting a new Club or Society is pretty straightforward. It all starts with an idea, check our current listings to make sure your idea is new as we can't create duplicate clubs! You’ll need to decide on the society’s name, its purpose, its main initiatives and the events and activities that you intend to provide.
Once you have your idea, you need to assemble your team, all Societies are student led so you need a Core Committee of 3 BU Students to take on roles of President, Secretary (also known as Communications) and Treasurer. We have more information on Committee roles in our resources below.
When your team is ready, you need to apply to the Students' Union. There is specific criteria all Clubs and Societies must meet, the application form will ask you to explain how your idea meets the criteria. When you submit your application it is sent to our Awarding Committee, a panel of staff who check your application and ratify your Society, from there if your application is approved, the Clubs team will guide you through the next steps to get you up and running - it's that easy!
