    Jewellery Volunteer - Highcliffe

    Why am I needed?Community is at the heart of everything that we do at Tenovus Cancer Care to help those affected by cancer. Our aim is simple – to deliver a vision where fewer people get cancer and those that do receive equal access to excellent treatment. However, we can’t do this without your help. Our shops in local communities are crucial to us raising vital funds. So, we’d like you to volunteer your time and commitment to help us make a difference. We are looking for someone with a passion and interest of jewellery, including costume jewellery. We get lots of donated goods such as gold / silver / designer. We would need a volunteer to clean, price accordingly, possibly research and merchandise our shop floor.

    What will I be doing?

    • Accepting donations from the public
    • Cleaning, researching and pricing goods
    • Putting goods on display in the shop
    • Displaying jewellery on the shop floor ensuring the items are rotated regularly to increase sales
    • Maintaining high levels of shop standards, presentation and cleanliness
    • Speaking with customers, making them welcome and answering queries
    • Promoting awareness of the charity and the services that we provide

    What skills do I need?

    • Strong customer service skills
    • A really keen eye for detail
    • Passion for Jewellery
    • Ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team
    • Ability to communicate effectively with other members of the team and customers.

     

     

    How much time do I need to commit?

    We’d need you to give around three hours per week if you can with the possibility to do more if you’d like to. However, we appreciate any time you’d like to give; please let us know this on your application form.

     

    What support will I be given?

    • Before starting with Tenovus Cancer Care, we ask that you visit the Shop Management team in the shop so we can both see how the role may suit you.
    • Following that the Shop Manager and team will be on hand to advise and help you select products you can use.
    • Becoming a volunteer with Tenovus Cancer Care can be a rewarding experience and is certainly invaluable to the charity and its goals.

Our shops in local communities are crucial to us raising vital funds. So, we’d like you to volunteer your time and commitment to help us make a difference. We need you to help process our stock donations ready for the shop floor.

    What will I be doing?

    • Accepting donations from the public
    • Sorting through donation bags
    • Hanging, ticketing and steaming stock
    • Cleaning and processing non-clothing stock
    • Maintaining high levels of stock room standards
    • Generating add-on sales and Gift Aid conversion through high levels of customer service
    • Completing Gift Aid shop paperwork
    • Promoting awareness of the charity and the services that we provide

     

    What skills do I need?

    • A really keen eye for detail
    • An interest in one of our product areas
    • Ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team
    • Ability to communicate effectively with other members of the team and customers.

    Work experience for young adults, teaching skills in an environmental role. An opportunity to bolster your CV, develop a passion or to prepare for a career in a relevant role. Tasks vary from session to session and include things like landscaping, habitat creation, species conservation, tree planting, and park maintenance.No prior knowledge is required and all tools and equipment is provided.

    • For ages 16-25
    • Must be able to attend locations around the BCP area. Sessions will be open for you to book onto the most convenient ones, but the more flexible you are the more will be available.
    • There's no obligation to attend every session, you are welcome to come along as and when you can, but the more you can attend the more experience you will gain.
    • Must be open to some hard work!

    Youth Team Member

    We would love to get or Youth team off the ground, but we don't have any young people currently able to be involved. If you have an interest in the climate change and the environment and would like to be part of setting up a Youth Team within Dorset Climate Action Network then get in touch!

    We have various teams within Dorset CAN, covering areas such as Land Use, Energy, Transport - and aspire to have an active youth team who set up their own campaigns and projects suitable to young people. You can be as involved as you are able, working closely with our Action Team  the Youth Team (made up of a small number of young people and guided by mentors from the Action Team), can start to plan things that get more young people on board, that encourage young people to make differences in their lives that make a difference, such as re-using, recycling, working on other projects to grow biodiversity, clean up our rivers, to building a relatnioship with schools in dorset and working to educate children all about what they can do to help the climate - the possibilites are endless!

    Community Litter Pick

    Join the local community for this litter pick close to Talbot Campus.

    Join SUBU and the local community for this local litter pick.  We will be meeting at Boundary Road roundabout opposite the Poole Gateway Building on Talbot Campus.  This will be on Friday 29th November from 10:00am til 12:00pm, removing litter and plastic from the environment along the university boundary and heading east along Wallisdown Road.

    Great Big Dorset Hedge Surveyor

    This opportunity is ongoing, with no end date.

    The Great big Dorset Hedge is an established project that surveys hedges across Dorset and BCP, relying heavily on volunteers to take part in the surveys. These surveys identify how these hedges can be improved, by better management, and planting up gaps.

    We organise surveys in all areas of Dorset and BCP, surveys can occur on any day of the week and typically last 3 hours, either scheduled in the morning or the afternoon. Anyone can join a survey and will be trained in the skills required to identify species and answer particular questions about the health, size and type of hedge.

    Community Café Volunteer

    Our cafés are somewhere for people get a great coffee, lunch or a snack, as well as being community hubs for a variety of activities encouraging people to get outside and enjoy using their local park.As a community café volunteer you will be part of a friendly team, helping to take orders, serve customers, and assist with the general running of the café. You will gain lots of practical experience in the catering industry such as customer service, serving food and drinks, and stock management. It's a great way to help the local community and be part of a special team.

    Our cafe volunteers will have the opportunity to get involved with our community cafes at Winton Recreation Ground, Redhill Park, Boscombe Chine Gardens, or Alexandra Park.

    GreenFingers Volunteer

    This opportunity takes place between 13 Feb 2024 and 31 Dec 2025

    Join our friendly GreenFingers volunteer groups to enjoy the outdoors and get involved in practical nature conservation in your local park. Tasks will vary from session to session and include things like park maintenance, planting seeds and trees, litter picking, and tending fruit and vegetables in community gardens. No prior knowledge is required and all tools and equipment is provided, as well as hot drinks and biscuits to keep you going.The parks nearest to the University include Slades Park, Redhill Park, and Winton Recreation Ground.

    •             Groups meet from once a month to once a week.

    •             Some groups meet on weekdays and some on weekends.

    •             There’s no obligation to attend every session, you are welcome to come along as and when you can.

    •             No prior knowledge is required.

    •             Tools and equipment are provided for the sessions, as well as tea, coffee, and biscuits to keep you going.

This role would require you to be positive and demonstrate a willingness to help us deliver a fantastic service to the members of our clubs. Ideally, you will be a team player and happy to get involved in any aspect of the club meetings. This could involve ensuring the venue is safe and welcoming for our members; this will include setting the room up appropriately, helping any members with limited mobility, engaging with our members and helping with the activities and refreshments. You may also have a specific skill or interest you would like to share with our members; we’re always on the lookout for new activities – if so we’d be very interested to hear from you. We encourage volunteers to get involved in the planning of future activities of the club too.
