As the Tokyo 2020 Olympics came to a close yesterday, the competition’s motto, “Faster, Higher, Stronger, Together” has never carried more meaning than it does now. After the pandemic pushed the games back a year, and even remained in doubt for this year, we were fortunate enough to be able to have the games go ahead.
And if there is anything that can bring people together, and create hope and joy then it’s the emotional rollercoaster of the Olympic Games.
This Olympic Games will always be remembered as one with an asterisk; with no crowds, the atmosphere around competitions was totally different, but it gave us some incredible upsets and endless drama that only sport can offer.
These Olympics have shown solidarity in a time where it is most needed, it gave people the chance to dream, and for things to feel normal again.
But most importantly, the unity created by people coming together for the sport that they love is a symbol of how we can learn from the pandemic and appreciate the amazing gift that is sport, and the unity it creates, especially at the Olympic Games.
