Hamworthy United continue to extend their unbeaten start to the campaign making it 18 games undefeated in the Wessex Premier League.
After a frustrating draw in their last game the Hammers were looking to fight back and claim all three points to move closer to second in the table and that’s exactly what they did - beating Alresford Town 4-0 at The County Ground
Just 20 minutes into the game after some good chances for both sides, it was Lee Francis for Hamworthy to claim the first goal. A good cross from Eddie Hodge set up Francis who was there to tap it home and to give the Hammers the lead.
As halftime approached, Hamworthy had a corner and after the ball was whipped in low by Jaime Beasley – Hamworthy defender Conor Cocklin climbed above everyone and headed home to give the Hammers a two-goal lead going into the second half.
It didn’t take long for the home side to continue the scoring as just 15 minutes into the second half Cam Munn slotted the ball home to make it three goals to none for the home side.
The final goal came from substitute Max Wilcock, who after coming on, scored the Hammers fourth goal just 30 seconds after being introduced to the game.
In the end, it was a dominant display from Hamworthy and puts them one point behind second in the league.
After the game, NERVE SPORT spoke to Hamworthy Manager Tim Sills, who said: “We were looking for a reaction, Saturday wasn’t good enough, we scored at the right times and dominated possession.
“You never expect to score that many, you hope to score that many – it was against tough opposition, a good side, a young side."
NERVE SPORT also spoke to Hamworthy goalkeeper Shane Murphy who after a quiet game said: “Alresford are coming in on the back of a good run of form, we knew it was going to be a tough game, so it was really good that the boys bounced back."
