Alton FC took all three points at Victoria Park on Saturday as Bournemouth FC's woes continue in the Wessex League Division One

The game was end to end with the two teams pushing to find a breakthrough. Notable chances for the home side in the first half came from Nil Canadel and Conor Jevon who failed to find the target.

A Bruno Manuel corner nearly broke the deadlock halfway through the first half; the cross found itself troubling the keeper and forcing another corner after being tipped behind.

The second half followed a similar pattern to the first, with Poppies growing in confidence and intent on attacking.

Conor Jevon almost took the lead when a super cross from Canadel from the right was begging to be turned in, yet could only be headed high over the bar from five yards out.

As the half pushed on, Alton found the breakthrough with a sweet effort from just outside the box which found the top corner with ease.

Things went from bad to worse for Bournemouth when Alex McKenzie received a second yellow card of the afternoon and was sent off.

Poppies Keith West said: “Over the last few weeks we’ve had better performances as a team, and we have to build off the back of it”

On the sending off, he said: “It was the turning point for me”

The new Poppies management member added: “We reacted well when we went down to ten, our levels never dropped which is pleasing.”
