► Training

Training

We currently train twice a week, once in the pool and once on the beach.  Sessions are run by qualified  beach lifeguards and instructors with the help of the RNLI Lifeguards.  We try and make each session as educational, progressive and fun as possible.

Day
TIme Description
Location
Wednesday 1445 - 1700 Beach session Bournemouth Pier
Friday 1730 - 2030 Pool session The Lifeboat College

The Lifeboat College

This is a state of the art survival pool built by the RNLI as a training ground for lifeboats and their crews.  It is not a swimming pool.  It is able to generate approximately seven different types of waves, wind, rain, special effects such as thunder, lightning and helicopter sounds.  It is 4M deep, is not heated and has been adapted to incorporate swimming lanes for the lifeguards to use it to train.  This is offered to us free of charge by the lovely people of the RNLI.

Equipment

We currently train with rescue board's and tube's borrowed to us by the RNLI Lifeguards.  However, there is a lot more to Surf Lifesaving than just these and over time and with the help of current and future club members we can hopefully begin to incorporate other forms of equipment such as surf ski's etc.

Surf Ski (possibility?)

Due to the nature of the Pool at which we train it is not heated, therefore, during the winter months a wetsuit is required.  You can either bring your own or the RNLI have ones which you can borrow during the session.  If you wish to train with us in the surf you will need your own winter wetsuit including boots, gloves and hat.  This may seem a little extravagant for those who are new to watersports, however, this is the UK and the water gets cold.  It's the price you have to pay to get your surf fix!
