How Volunteering works

Volunteering requirements

The key to achieving a Leadership Award is applying the workshops skills to your volunteering activity, and each level demands more responsibility from you, in line with the level of skills in the workshop.

There are 2 ways you can fulfil the volunteering requirement for Leadership Training awards:

1. Apply the skills from the workshops by taking part in any volunteering project that has already been organised OR

2. Apply the workshop skills to your current involvement with SUBU for example Campaign support team

For Bronze Volunteering you will need to attend and participate in a volunteering activity of your choice, either something you have chosen to do yourself or an activity organised by . Here are a couple of examples of what you can get involved in at thehub:

Attend 1 MAD Day.

MAD days stand for Make A Difference. They involve giving up a day or an afternoon to do various activities in the local community. Past MAD Days have included a Meyrick Park Community Project, painting a school and building a pathway on Brownsea island. To find out more about MAD days, visit thehub website.

For Silver Volunteering you need to be responsible for key parts of a volunteering activity and overseeing at least two others. This can be a project or activity organised by yourself our an external organisation or something that is available on thehub.

Here are is an example of what you can do on thehub:
Lead 1 MAD Day or Afternoon
Help organise, plan and co-ordinate a MAD Day or Afternoon.

For Gold Award: Ensure your Volunteering/SUBU involvement is your own idea and that you have responsibility for managing it. Your activity also needs to include managing the involvement of at least two other people.
