► The "You're brilliant!" BU staff awards

What are they?

The "You're Brilliant!" BU Staff Awards have been created to recognise any staff member at BU that has helped make the student experience at BU brilliant.

Any current Student Rep at BU can nominate any current staff member at BU at any time for an award. The only criteria is that the Rep (or the students they represent) believes that the staff member has been brilliant for students. Any staff can be nominated – lecturers, researchers, administrators, managers, librarians, estates , technicians, cleaners, car park attendants, catering staff, demonstrators, support staff, accommodation staff… absolutely anyone, as long as they are current BU staff.

How do I nominate a staff member for a “You’re brilliant!” award?

To nominate a staff member, Reps need to simply fill in the nomination form at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/yourebrilliantstaffaward and we will do the rest. All nominations received will be given an award as long as the reasons given are stated coherently and are valid! To help us, please fill in the "4. Please state your reasons for nominating this person" as fully as you can, as we use these words on the certificate for the staff member. We won’t however, divulge to the staff member who it was that nominated them. We don’t want to embarrass you or them too much!

How do nominated staff get their award?

We will present your nominated staff member with their award as soon after your nomination as possible; normally within 2 weeks. The award has 2 parts:

1. A certificate with a quote of your words on it to say that they are brilliant.
2. A special edition thermal mug that says “I’m brilliant… my students say so!” on it.

We will present the staff member with their award wherever we find them in their normal place of work – lecture, office, car park – we don’t mind! So, be prepared to find your nominated staff member ambushed by us somewhere on campus when they are not expecting it!

What happens then?

After photographing the happy moment, we will upload the details of all award winners to our website, (also accessible as a link through myBU, student reps tab).

At Easter each year, overall winners for each School (“Outstandingly Brilliant!” award)will also be decided by an independent panel, and these final nominees will go forward to the VC Awards to be considered for the overall BU winner – the “Most Outstandingly Brilliant!” award.
