Hello and Welcome to the SUBU Elections Process for the part-time officer positions 11/12.
This is your opportunity to make some big decisions and run campaigns on behalf of the entire BU student body. That’s 18,000 students – have you got what it takes?
So once the SUBU executive committee are elected, what do they actually do?
The SUBU Executive has weekly meetings chaired by the president. Here they discuss and make decisions on student issues based on consultation and research. The officers also plan and run campaigns throughout the year spanning areas such as education, involvement, and student welfare, as well as being receptive to topical issues affecting the BU population.

So what are these elections all about?
A lot goes on during a year at BU, and your full time officers in SUBU (Toby, Kate, Philli and Jesse) need support from a team of part time volunteers to make important decisions and run campaigns. Each of the part time officers has their own area of university life or group of students to represent, and if elected, will be working closely with the president and vice presidents to be the voice and ears of the students.
Commitments will include regular attendance at weekly exec meetings, speaking and listening to students and running events and campaigns. The role may also involve attendance at university level meetings with one of the full time officers. It’s a challenging role – but an extremely rewarding one.
Why become a part-time exec officer?
All of the elected officers will receive full training on skills that you can use throughout your life as well as a wider understanding of your students’ union and the university itself. Other than it looking fantastic on your CV, exec officers also get free entry to the Firestation for the year.
